This component focuses on providing apprenticeship and employment opportunities for youth across various trades. We work with master craftsmen and employers to ensure that participants gain the technical skills they need to secure sustainable employment.
On-the-Job Experience
Eligibility Criteria:
Age: 18-29 years (Up to 35 years for Persons with Disabilities)
Education: Form 4 level of education or below
Employment Status: Unemployed, underemployed, or in low-tier employment
Location: Kenyan youth in all 47 counties, including refugees in Garissa and Turkana
Key Points:
Duration: The apprenticeship lasts 5 months, combining on-the-job training with mentorship from industry experts.
Trade Selection: Participants can choose from various trades within digital, creative, green, blue, and grey economies.
Certification: Upon successful completion, participants receive formal recognition of their skills through certifications such as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) from NITA.
Job Placement: The program aims to place participants into formal employment or help them establish themselves as independent artisans.
Support System: The program includes social-emotional skills development, covering areas such as communication, leadership, and financial literacy.
Partnerships: Collaborates with industry leaders like the Kenya Association of Manufacturers and Kenya Film Services for placements and mentorship.
Recognition for Prior Learning
It also offers opportunities of certification for youth with skills achieved through a range of experiences in informal and non-formal set ups such as employer provided training or experience.
