World Bank Team Evaluates NYOTA Entrepreneurship Training In Nairobi And Kiambu Counties

A delegation from the World Bank, led by the Task Team Leader for the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, Mr. Kevin Heraniah, and the Co-Task Team Leader, Ms. Federica Ricaldi, conducted a monitoring visit to Nairobi and Kiambu counties to assess the ongoing Business Skills Training under the NYOTA Project.

The team visited Lang’ata, Kibra, Dagoretti South and Kasarani constituencies in Nairobi. It extended their field visits to training centres within Kiambu County, where youth were also engaged in the NYOTA entrepreneurship training. The visit aimed to review implementation progress, understand the training experience from the perspective of beneficiaries and trainers, and assess overall facilitation quality.

During the monitoring exercise, the World Bank team observed vibrant classroom sessions marked by active participation, constructive discussions, and strong enthusiasm for the business concepts being introduced. Youth openly shared their experiences and aspirations, expressing confidence that the skills gained through the training will strengthen their ability to start and grow enterprises.

The World Bank team commended this level of engagement and reiterated the importance of maintaining high-quality facilitation across all counties. They emphasised the need for consistent delivery standards, strong trainer preparedness, and a youth-centred approach that ensures participants fully benefit from the curriculum.

The NYOTA Business Skills Training continues to equip young people with practical, hands-on competencies necessary for enterprise development. Over the four-day programme, participants are taken through foundational areas such as business planning, financial literacy, record keeping, compliance, market readiness, and strategies for enterprise growth. This structured learning journey is designed to strengthen their understanding of Kenya’s business environment and prepare them to pursue entrepreneurship as a viable pathway to economic empowerment.

NYOTA aims to empower more than 820,000 young people across all 1,450 wards in Kenya through entrepreneurship training, certification, financial support, and mentorship. By strengthening the capacity of emerging entrepreneurs, the Project seeks to expand income-generating opportunities, enhance productivity, and position youth as central drivers of Kenya’s socio-economic transformation.

The World Bank’s monitoring visit underscores the strong partnership supporting the rollout of the NYOTA Project and reaffirms the commitment to ensure that every training delivers measurable value, relevance, and long-term impact for Kenyan youth.
